( Moses ) Samuel Mansfield Grave

Hudson City Cemetery, 20 Columbia Turnpike, Hudson, NY

Located in section 1B, lot 150, the grave can be found by turning off Columbia Tpke onto Paul Av (Ten Broeck Lane) then entering the cemetery through the first gate on your right. Go straight in a ways and then turn right. You will approach a large former entrance gate, no longer in use. Turn left there and proceed until you see four obelisks on your right. Stop there and walk to your left. The Mansfield gravestone is fourth stone in from the road.

Moses Samuel Mansfield (he dropped the use of Moses in his adult life) was the younger brother of Margaret Mansfield Arnold, and therefore the brother-in-law of Benedict Arnold. He was a volunteer in the army that was sent to reinforce the Quebec Expedition via the Champlain Valley in 1776. Arnold appointed him captain of the gondola New Haven, which fought in the Battle of Valcour Island, and was later burned in Arnold Bay by the fleeing Americans.
