James Armour Jr. Grave
located along Buckley Highway (CT171), in Union, CT. GPS coordinates: 42.0168750, -72.1453180
As you approach along RT 171 from I-84 exit 74, look for a field on your right. The small family cemetery (with just one grave) is across the street from the furthest edge of the field. Look for a vary faint path going up the steep embankment at the road edge. You will quickly reach the top of the rise and see the gravestone ahead of you.
The Press Democrat, a Santa Rosa. CA newspaper, published a story on 15 Dec 1922 (Vol XLIX, No 139) which said that James Armour Jr., of Union, CT had married the sister of the traitor Benedict Arnold. This is not true, but must have been the family lore, as it is repeated on the gravestone that seems to date from that era. See the srticle here: https://cdnc.ucr.edu/?a=d&d=SRPD19221215.2.123&e=-------en--20--1--txt-txIN--------1
Also of interest in this news story is an account of a trip James took to visit many of the Rev War battlefields in the days before there were any historical preservation efforts.
