Sylvanus Shaw Grave

Red Bank Battlefield Park, 100 Hessian Av, National Park, NJ

The location of Shaw's grave is unknown, but he died in the Battle of Red Bank at Fort Mercer, which took place Oct. 22, 1777. Shot through the neck, he died of his wound. Perhaps he is buried on the grounds. Many fallen Hessians were interred here after the battle.

Besides Shaw, other veteran's of Arnold's March that fought here were the commander, Col. Christopher Greene, and Samuel Ward, Edward Slocum, Simeon Thayer, Samuel Ward and William Humphrey. All had been prisoners in Quebec after the failed attack.
