530 Main Street (US Rt 2), corner Colonial Ave, Williamstown, MA

Benedict Arnold spent the night of May 6, 1775 in this house on his journey toward Ticonderoga. Smedley operated it as a tavern at the time.

  • Note the construction date, 1772, on the gable end.
  • These next seven photos show the house after complete refurbishment, foundation to rooftop, in 2016. They are from the real estate website where the house was offered for sale in December 2016 at $595,000.
  • Basement of the house, said to be the area used as the tavern. An article in Yankee Magazine Jan-Feb 2017 states that Arnold slept in a room behind the chimney.
