Jonathan Brown (1724-1797) served as an aide to Benedict Arnold, with the rank of Captain, on the Fort Ticonderoga operation in May 1775. Arthur Lefkowitz, in his excellent book "Benedict Arnold, In the Company of Heroes" postulates that the Massachusetts Committee of Safety attached the trusted and experienced captain to the impressive and enthusiastic Arnold to hedge their bets.
