While enroute to the attack on Fort Ticonderoga, Benedict Arnold stayed overnight in Charlemont. He stayed in the home of the man who would build this inn after the Revolution. The current owners of the inn (1999) don't know just where the house was, but think that it may have been incorporated into the present structure.
