  1. Andre's Route and Capture

Crompond Corner

Crompond Rd, corner Old Yorktown Rd, Yorktown Heights, NY

Crompond Corner is mentioned in the accounts of Major Andre's attempt to reach the British lines overland. He encountered Capt. Ebenezer Foote at Strang's Tavern in this location.

Just a little further along his route (Hand in "Westchester Treasure Hunt" says near the intersection of Crompond Rd and Granite Springs Rd) Andre encountered Col. Samuel Webb, a patriot he had met in New York when Webb was a POW. Andre went unrecognized though this day.

The Mildred E. Strang Middle School, 2701 Crompond Rd, Yorktown Heights is located near the Webb encounter.
An interpretive panel in front of the school about Major Andre and his passing the site was dedicated in 2010.

  • View of Crompond Corner from Old Yorktown Road. Crompond Rd is the cross-street. To the right of the photographer is First Presbyterian Church, 2880 Crompond Rd, where Col. Christopher Greene, a participant on Arnold's March to Quebec, is buried. He died at the Battle of Pines Bridge nearby. See my gallery on him.
  • This park is across the street from First Presbyterian Church. A monument to commemorate the Battle of Pines Bridge is planned for this site.
