Lord Cornwallis' tomb is in a large park on the south side of Ghazipur-Chochakpur Rd just west of Post Graduate College Rd.
British general Lord Cornwallis sailed home from America on the same ship as Benedict Arnold, HMS Robust, landing in England on January 21, 1782. Cornwallis was a prisoner of war on parole after the Yorktown surrender.
Arnold and Cornwallis kept in touch in England. Cornwallis spoke to Pitt on behalf of Arnold's elaborate plan and proposal to capture Spanish possessions in the West Indies, Central and South America. He also accepted Arnold's son James Robertson Arnold as a gentleman cadet in his artillery regiment.
